Objective:
The objectives of the commission - especially constituted by the high court - is to protect the Ravi from further degradation to revert the environmental conditions of the river to its original state.

Current status of the River Ravi:
Various discharge lines entering the Ravi are polluting it to a level where survival of aquatic life has become impossible.

The flow rate of the river has decreased considerably over a period of time whereas the contamination level has increased due to untreated municipal and industrial wastewater discharge.

Though the commission is likely to confront budgetary issue but it was decided that a public interest case like cleaning of the Ravi would be dealt as a high priority case.
