BEGINNING MINIATURE PAINTING

Traditional Islamic Art conveys the spirituality and message of Islam through a timeless language of symbolism.

        Ibn Muqla Centre of Arts invites you to explore this language of symbols through the medium of Miniature painting.

Course Structure:
          We are offering an introductory three month course that includes the theoretical, historical and practical aspects of this art. The course authors include Professor Bashir Ahmed, Head of Department of Fine Arts at the National College of Arts and Taimoor Khan Mumtaz, a student of Dr. Martin Lings.

The course will be taught by a student of Bashir Ahmed sahib, Fyza Aamir, an NCA graduate with a degree in fine arts majoring in miniature painting.

           Course duration will be three months: Nov 2013 -Jan 2014.
           Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm

beginning Sunday, 3rd November 2013 

Join us every first Sunday of the month on a journey of inspiring readings 
 of Imam Ghazali (r.a.) with Shaykh Jahangir Mahmud
12:30 to 1:30 pm, followed by langar & Zuhr prayers


We will begin the journey with a brief introduction to the Imam and then continue with selectons from one of Imām Ghazālī’s final works, Bidayah al-Hidayah  - The Beginning of Guidance - which embodies a lifetime of learning, experience, and spirituality and can be taken as an introduction to his larger works. A highly motivational manual detailing the fundamentals of acquiring guidance through God-consciousness (taqwa). Imam Ghazali argues that just as there is an end to this noble objective there is also a beginning to it, which must be made firm for one to achieve success. 


Shaykh Jahangir Mahmud Sahib is an Islamic research scholar and educationist with an Ijazah (License) in Traditional Islamic Sciences, tasawwuf as well as a Bachelor's degree from Pakistan’s foremost colleges. 

Author of nearly twenty books, he has conducted over 10,000 trainings in Pakistan and abroad.

The lecture will be followed by a workshop involving attendees in exercises to learn public speaking well and convincingly.

Objective: 
The objectives of the commission - especially constituted by the high court - is to protect the Ravi from further degradation to revert the environmental conditions of the river to its original state.

Current status of the River Ravi:
Various discharge lines entering the Ravi are polluting it to a level where survival of aquatic life has become impossible. 

The flow rate of the river has decreased considerably over a period of time whereas the contamination level has increased due to untreated municipal and industrial wastewater discharge. 

Though the commission is likely to confront budgetary issue but it was decided that a public interest case like cleaning of the Ravi would be dealt as a high priority case.

While popular astrology has certainly contributed to relegating astrology to the realm of pseudo-science or worse still to frivolous fortune-telling and entertainment, it has nonetheless served as an initial portal into real astrology especially for those who are motivated by a desire to seek the truth in all knowledge. Anyone who then probes into the conceptual depths and profound practice of real astrology, will discover that there is immense logic and structure to this divine universal script of the skies.

These series of seminars on astrology deals with how the language of astrology may assist us in better negotiating everyday life through a more insightful understanding of our own selves and of our potential strengths and weaknesses in behavioural interactions.

Seminar 1: Introducing the Signs of the Zodiac - (1st Week November)
Seminar 2: The Planets & their Meanings - (4th Week November)
Seminar 3: The Houses of the Astrological Chart - (2nd Week December)

Dr. Tehnyat Majeed holds a doctorate in Islamic Art and Archaeology from the University of Oxford. During her studies abroad, she was initiated into the art of astrological interpretation by a French astrologer and practitioner of the mystical tradition of the kabbalah. In addition, she received part of her formal training in astrology at the Faculty of Astrological Studies in London. She is currently Adjunct Faculty, History of Islamic Art, Museum Studies at Beaconhouse National University

WHY ASTROLOGY MATTERS

This talk deals with how the language of astrology may assist us in better negotiating everyday life through a more insightful understanding of our own selves and of our potential strengths and weaknesses in behavioural interactions.

A series of three workshops on Astrology is being conducted at Hast-o-Neest from October to November 2013 insha'llah.
