Course 3: Miniature Painting 12-Month Diploma
New Session begins Tuesday 24th May, 2011
The proposed diploma - with a strong focus on the Indian miniature tradition - is an intensive three part workshop course focusing on the theory and techniques of miniature painting, examined in both its historical and contemporary contexts. Since miniature painting has its roots in a traditional world view, it is essential for contemporary practitioners to understand this history and the original intentions of the traditional artist.
In the first semester students will learn the basic siah qalam brush and ink rendering technique, the backbone for the more advanced techniques. In the second semester students will move on to learning advanced miniature painting techniques of neemrang and gadrang, techniques that involve pigment preparation and application. In the final semester students will be encouraged to develop their own body of work in light of the learnt tradition and its application in the contemporary world.
Although the course is tailored to individual needs there will be compulsory group activities such as lectures, discussions and material demonstration. The class will be conducted in a traditional communal workshop environment.

Drawing skill is not a prerequisite.

(Flexibility in timings is available for interested students who may not be able to attend the class three times a week.

COURSE 2: Classical Arabic Calligraphy khattati
New Session begins Monday, 30th May 2011
The Classical Arabic Calligraphy Diploma has been designed to impart teaching and training of the art of calligraphy in the light of traditional method set by renowned calligraphists over centuries of Muslim history. The program encompasses teaching& training of style of calligraphy Nastalique (Lahori), Nastaliq (Lahori & Persian), Shekasta, Sulus, Naskh, Diwani, Diwani Jalli, Riqa, Kufic etc.
The complete diploma consists of four separate and inter related stages each of three month duration.
Primary Module:
· Teaching & training of select style, detached letters, shapes with proportion.
· Preparation of traditional pen, ink and paper
· Principles of calligraphy introduced by Ibn-e-Muqla.
· Brief history of calligraphy with special reference to the select style.
· Studio practice at the end of which students will be required submit their practical work as Siah Mashq.

COURSE 5: Classical Singing

Fifth generation vocalists of the famous and flamboyant Patiala Gharana school of classical singing Salman and Ali are the grandsons of the inimitable and legendary Ustad Amanat Ali Khan of the famed Amanat Ali-Fateh Ali duo of classical singing.

COURSE 4: Classical & Spoken Farsi
New Session starts Saturday, 28th May 2011
Level-I (6 weeks)
The course would be taught in the manner and technique used in traditional Islamic pedagogy which aims at not only using tried and tested methods of training the mind and memory but also imbibing the spirit and blessings of the tradition.
One of the course books - traditionally a standard text for beginning level Farsi - 'Karima Saadi' by famous 13th century mystic, poet and moralist Saadi Shirazi, illustrates how the foundations of traditional culture were laid in the formation of young minds from the very beginning of their education. The book focuses on the basic virtues and vices of human nature in beautiful easily memorised Persian poetry.
