Darya ba Hubab Andar: An Ocean within a Bubble

"Dar sīnae Nasīr-ud-din juz ishq namī gunjad
Īn turfa tamāsha bīn darya ba hubāb andar"

Hast-o-Neest Centre for Traditional Art & Culture
Invite you to
an exhibition of Arabic & Persian Mystical Poetry

Darya ba Hubab Andar
An Ocean within a Bubble

On  Sunday, 20th February 2011
from  3:30 - 6:30 p.m.
At Hast-o-Neest Centre for Traditional Art & Culture

Organized by Baytunur, Daryā Ba Hubāb Andar presents selections from Arabic and Persian mystical poetry interpreted by some of Pakistan’s finest calligraphers and miniature artists.

These verses offer a glimpse into the inner aspects of Islamic spirituality—its doctrines, practices and above all the experience of the Divine—articulated through the simultaneously personal and universal language of poetry.

The selections include verses from: Rumi, Ahmed Jam, Ibn Arabi, Shushtari, Jili and Hallaj. From the Sub-continent there are verses from: Amir Khusrau, Chiragh Dehlavi and Sultan Bahu.

The title of the exhibition, Darya Ba Hubāb Andar is taken from a verse by the closest disciple and first successor to the great Chisti saint Nizamuddin Auliya (1238-1325), Nasīr-ud-din Mahmūd Chirāgh Dehlavi (1274-1356):

Dar sīnae Nasīr-ud-din juz ishq namī gunjad
Īn turfa tamāsha bīn darya ba hubāb andar
(Nasīr-ud-din’s bosom has no space except for Divine Love,
Look at this strange spectacle: an ocean within a bubble)
The aim of this exhibition is to contribute towards reviving the art of illumination modeled on classical techniques and traditions, and also to create awareness and appreciation of the inherent qualities of pure classical calligraphy.
The deeper objective is to present carefully chosen texts which offer something both for the mind and for the heart as well as give a taste/dhauq of the inner dimensions of Islamic spirituality.

Founded in 2006, Baytunur is a trust formed to promote the understanding of tariqat, the inner aspect of Islam.

Astrology as a Tool for Self-Empowerment
Dr. Tehnyat Majeed

The Birth chart represents not only a blueprint of our character and personality but also serves as a roadmap to achieve our true purpose in life. This presentation introduces the basic elements of an astrological chart wheel and demonstrates how the chart is an effective tool for self-analysis, increased awareness and, ultimately, for self-empowerment

Dr. Tehnyat Majeed holds a doctorate in Islamic Art and Archaeology from the University of Oxford. During her studies abroad, she was initiated into the art of astrological interpretation by a French astrologer and practitioner of the mystical tradition of the kabbalah. In addition, she received part of her formal training in astrology at the Faculty of Astrological Studies in London.
